What is Health Coaching?

The International Consortium for Health & Wellness Coaching (ICHWC) defines health coaching as "a process that facilitates healthy, sustainable behavior change by challenging a client to develop their inner wisdom, identify their values, and transform their goals into action."

What does a health coach do?

Health coaches typically work with clients to explore their current health status, identify areas for improvement, set achievable goals, and develop personalized strategies to enhance their overall well-being. They may focus on various aspects of wellness, including nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep, and self-care practices.

What's the difference between a Doctor and a health coach?

Remote Health Coaching Session

A doctor is a licensed medical professional who has completed education and training in diagnosing, treating, and managing various medical conditions. They possess  knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, diseases, and medical interventions. Doctors can provide medical assessments, order diagnostic tests, and offer specialized medical treatments.

On the other hand, a health coach is a professional who focuses on guiding and supporting individuals in making positive lifestyle changes to improve their overall health and well-being. Health coaches typically work with clients to set goals, develop personalized strategies, and provide ongoing motivation and accountability.  Health coaches do not diagnose or treat medical conditions but rather collaborate with clients to enhance their overall health through behavior and lifestyle modifications.

While doctors primarily address medical concerns and provide treatment for specific conditions, health coaches focus on supporting individuals in adopting healthier habits and optimizing their overall well-being.

Do I need a health coach?

Many individuals could benefit from a health coach. If you have health goals, and simply don’t know where to start, enlisting the services of a health coach is advantageous. Or if you have health aspirations, and have tried (x,y,z) approach with no or limited success, a health coach could be the missing piece you need.

To better realize my strengths as a coach, I’ve listed the programs I offer and examples of the types of clients I am best equipped to assist.

It is recommended you take a look at the Regain Health and/or Lose Pain PDFs posted below.  Having this basic information prior to coaching can help answer any questions you may have, and allow more time for the coaching process.

Program 1: Regain Health.

1. Individuals transitioning to a healthier lifestyle: Making significant lifestyle changes, such as adopting a healthier diet, starting into exercise, looking to reduce stress, or improve sleep, can be challenging. A health coach can provide support, education, and strategies to facilitate the transition and help individuals sustain these changes long-term.

2. Individuals with chronic health conditions: People with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, or autoimmune disorders can benefit from a health coach's guidance in managing their condition, making lifestyle changes, and achieving optimal health.

3. Individuals trying to lose weight: Losing weight can be challenging, and a health coach can provide personalized guidance, support, and accountability. They can help create a tailored nutrition plan, set realistic goals, track progress, and provide motivation to stay on track.

4. Individuals looking to improve their fitness: Whether someone is new to exercise or wants to take their fitness routine to the next level, a health coach can provide guidance on exercise selection, proper form, workout programming, and motivation to help individuals reach their fitness goals.

You can book and purchase your package using one of the two boxes below.  If you are unsure if health coaching is right for you, you can always call or text (304-840-2820), email (DocLeviChiropractic@yahoo.com), or use the "Contact Us" page of this site.  This is considered a "discovery call" and there is no charge to you.

Program 2: Lose Pain.

A health coach can provide valuable support and guidance to help someone manage and potentially alleviate pain. While a health coach cannot directly treat or diagnose medical conditions, they can assist individuals in making positive lifestyle changes that may contribute to pain reduction. Here are several ways in which a health coach could help someone with pain:

1. Education and Awareness: A health coach can educate individuals about the underlying causes of pain, helping them understand how certain lifestyle factors or habits may be contributing to their discomfort. This knowledge empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their health.

2. Personalized Strategies: Each person's experience with pain is unique, so a health coach can work with individuals to develop personalized strategies tailored to their specific needs.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: A health coach can help individuals identify and modify lifestyle factors that may worsen pain. This could involve making dietary changes to reduce inflammation, incorporating appropriate exercise and movement routines, improving sleep hygiene, or managing stress through relaxation techniques.

4. Accountability and Motivation: Sticking to new habits and making long-lasting changes can be challenging. A health coach provides accountability and support, helping individuals stay motivated, track progress, and overcome obstacles along the way.

5. Referrals and Collaboration: If necessary, a health coach can refer individuals to other healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists, pain management specialists, or nutritionists, to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to pain management. They can also collaborate with these professionals to coordinate care and support the individual's overall well-being.

Remember, it's crucial to consult with qualified healthcare professionals for a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of any persistent pain. A health coach can work alongside these professionals to complement their care and provide additional support.

Ok, I want a health coaching package.  What should I expect?

Health coaching packages can vary depending on the individual's needs. However, here are some common elements you can expect from a health coaching package:

1. Initial Assessment: The coaching relationship usually begins with an initial assessment. The health coach will gather information about your current health status, medical history, lifestyle habits, goals, and any specific concerns or challenges you may have. This assessment helps the coach understand your unique needs and tailor the coaching experience accordingly.

2. Goal Setting: Once the coach has a clear understanding of your needs, you will work together to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. These goals will serve as a roadmap for your coaching journey and help you track your progress.

3. Regular Coaching Sessions: Health coaching involves a series of one-on-one sessions, either in person, over the phone, or via video calls. The frequency and duration of these sessions will depend on the package you choose and the coach's recommendations. Sessions can range from weekly to monthly, with each session typically lasting 30 minutes to an hour.

4. Personalized Action Plan: Based on your goals and needs, the health coach will help you develop a personalized action plan. This plan may include specific strategies, behavior modifications, lifestyle changes, and recommendations for nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep, and other relevant areas. The coach will guide you through implementing and adjusting this plan as needed.

5. Accountability and Support: A significant benefit of health coaching is the accountability and support provided by the coach. They will help you stay on track, provide encouragement, and hold you responsible for taking the necessary steps towards your goals. Coaches may use various tools and techniques to keep you motivated and engaged throughout the coaching process.

6. Resources and Education: Health coaches often provide educational materials, resources, and tools to enhance your knowledge and understanding of health-related topics. These resources can help you make informed decisions and empower you to take control of your health.

7. Communication Between Sessions: Included health coaching packages offer ongoing support and communication between sessions. This can include email check-ins, messaging platforms, or brief phone calls to address questions, provide additional guidance, and offer support when needed.

The specific details of a health coaching package will vary, so it's advisable to discuss your expectations and requirements with the coach before committing to a package. You can always call, email, or text me free of charge and discuss if health coaching is right for you.
